On Thursday, the two-time major winner and former world number one committed to playing in the Australian Open in Sydney, Australia. Mcllroy last played in the tournament “down under” in 2007 when he shot rounds of 74, 74, 76, and 77 to finish in a tie for 59th.

“It is pretty much locked in place I will be playing the Australian Open in Sydney,” Mcllroy said. “It’s been a couple of years since I last competed in an Australian Open. I competed in 2006 when I was still an amateur and then a year later after just turning pro. Both were in Sydney and I’ve always enjoyed myself in Sydney so I am very much looking forward to returning to Royal Sydney.”

The Australian Open is put on every year by the PGA Tour of Australasia and awards Official World Golf Ranking points as a result of it being a “national open”. This year’s contest will be held November 28 to December 1 at the Royal Sydney Course.

In addition to the Australian Open, Mcllroy had previously committed to playing in Tiger Woods’ tournament, the Northwestern Mutual World Golf Challenge, December 5-8 at Sherwood Country Club in Southern California.
