Have refreshments to provide- Moving is hard work, especially in warm weather climates like South Florida. It is always good to have some cold water, soda, or sport drinks on hand for your movers.
If you are going to get the movers lunch, ask what they want- Some people like to provide their movers lunch instead of giving them a tip which is perfectly acceptable. If you are going to do this, you should see if the movers have any food preference before getting it. Many people just assume to get pizza because everyone likes pizza so you can only imagine how much pizza they have in a given week or month.
Percentages don’t really work- Unlike a restaurant, there are no customary tip percentages for movers. The no matter how much value the items in the truck may have, there is usually not much difference in the time it took to load or unload the vehicle. If it’s a 4 hour day, $10 per mover is considered appropriate and you can go from there. If you have a lot of heavy furniture or a lot of stairs to go up you might want to consider adding to that total.
Don’t give a lump some to one person- Giving individualized tips shows that you recognize and appreciate each movers individual effort. Also sometimes if you give a lump some to just one person not everyone might get their fair share.
