Blowing Rocks Preserve, Jupiter Island

Located approximately 30 miles north of Palm Beach, Blowing Rocks Preserve is a 73 acre barrier island sanctuary located on Jupiter Island, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian River Lagoon part of the Intracoastal waterway system. The preserve derives its name from the Anastasia limestone shoreline which is the largest on the Atlantic coast. During extreme high tides and after winter storms, seas break against the rocks and force sprays of water upwards of 50 ft.  Recognizing the importance of the rare rock formation and fragile ecosystem which is home to many natural habitats as well as migrating birds manatees and loggerhead turtles, the residents of Jupiter Island donated the land in 1969 to the Nature Conservancy so that it would remain forever wild.  On site, there is also the Hawley Education Center which houses rotating conservation and art exhibits.  It is opened to the public daily except for major holidays.
