USGA Partners With Fox in New Deal
On Wednesday, the USGA and Fox Sports announced a partnership deal between the two entities for the next 12 years.
Starting in 2015, Fox and the newly created Fox Sports 1 will become the principal domestic media partner of the USGA and its national championships. As part of the deal, Fox will broadcast the U.S. Open, U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open, as well as other USGA national amateur championships.
The deal is believed to be worth $100 million a year and will call for Fox and Fox Sports 1 to air a total of 146 hours of championship golf, including a minimum of 70 cumulative hours of live event coverage of the three professional Opens.
This is the first time Fox has entered into the major-championship golf spectrum, ending NBC’s run as the exclusive home for USGA Championship coverage. NBC and the USGA started their partnership in 1995 when NBC aired its first U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills.
NBC’s last U.S Open will be next year at Pinehurst No. 2 with Fox taking over the following year when the Open is played at Chambers Bay outside of Seattle.
