Ernie Els Takes 36 Hole Lead Into Weekend

Ernie Els ended the U.S. Open on a high note. A 69 on Sunday gave him a four round total of 5-over par, good enough for a fourth place finish.

Els got off to a hot start on Thursday. His bogey free round of 63 featured seven birdies, including three in a row on holes 11-13, and an eagle. While Els struggled a little on the front nine Friday that included two birdies and a double bogey, he recovered on the back nine to post a 3-under 69.

Also playing in this week’s European Tour event is Loxahatchee River resident Dustin Johnson. Johnson posted rounds of 66 and 71 and sits five shots behind the leader Els going into the weekend.
