Palm Beach Gardens Resident Wins Women’s Amateur Golf Championship
Susan Cohen recently won the Palm Beach County Women’s Amateur Golf Championship held on the Fazio Course at PGA National. Her 10 shot victory was her seventh consecutive amateur title.
The Palm Beach Gardens resident has won a record 10 amateur championships in her career and the 10 shot victory this year was not even her largest victory. Cohn won by 14 shots in 2008 and 12 shots in 2009.
The Fazio course is PGA National’s original course. Formerly The Haig and opened in 1980, the Fazio course “achieves that ideal balance where single-digit golfers will be fully challenged while higher handicaps will have a layout ideal for a day of enjoyable resort golf.”
The mother of three, Cohen is a native of South Florida native, having graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School before attending the University of North Carolina on a golf scholarship. In 2012 she was recognized by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission as the Amateur Athlete of the Year.
